PSA International Joins Singapore-Rotterdam Green and Digital Corridor as Action Partner

PSA International (PSAI) has joined the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Port of Rotterdam Authority (POR) as an Action Partner to establish the world's longest Green and Digital Corridor for efficient and sustainable shipping.
At the sidelines of the biennial World Cities Summit held in August 2022, MPA and the POR signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the world's longest Green and Digital Corridor to enable low, and eventually, zero-carbon shipping. The signing was witnessed by Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations, Singapore, and Mr Ahmed Aboutaleb, Mayor of Rotterdam.
Singapore and Rotterdam are amongst the largest bunkering ports in the world, making them vital links on the Asian-European shipping lanes. While international shipping still primarily uses marine gas oil (MGO) and low-sulphur fuel oil, sustainable alternatives such as biofuels are increasingly being made available. Even greener options such as hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels including ammonia and methanol, are in various stages of R&D for future trials and deployment.
In support of this initiative, PSAI is part of a broad coalition of industry Action Partners, comprising of the two port authorities, the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD), Maersk McKinney Moller Centre for Zero-Carbon Shipping (MMMCZS), CMA CGM, Digital Container Shipping Association, Maersk, MSC, Ocean Network Express and Shell.
As a first step on this journey, POR and MPA hosted an inaugural workshop in Singapore to kickstart the collaboration on the Green Corridor, with GCMD and MMMCZS as co-facilitators. This workshop will eventually pave the way for the Green and Digital Corridor project to attract other industry stakeholders and kickstart industry-leading initiatives on net zero shipping.
