#Innovators of PSA – Luca Polleri

Luca Polleri works as an Engineering Supervisor at PSA Genova Pra’ in Italy. He manages the implementation of new equipment and automation within the terminal and is also currently Innovation Manager for PSA Italy.

‘Make life simpler with something simple’ is how Luca describes his personal innovation philosophy. This shows itself in one of his recent projects – the invention of a “frog clamp”. Luca and his teammates custom designed a humble clamp unit to make life for our technicians easier and safer when carrying out the task of replacing crane ropes during maintenance. This innovation has been adopted by at least 6 PSA terminals to date!

Luca believes that his ability to be creative was developed during the early years of his career, where he had to work alone on projects in many parts of the world, and solve problems on the fly. He thinks that a good innovator is someone who is able to think analytically, and is also comfortable with a good dose of fantasy – those flights of fancy can spark great ideas!

To Luca, everyone can be an innovator, especially with the rise of new technologies that are expanding opportunities for innovations everywhere. Yet every innovation journey must have a purpose, to make life simpler for someone. He advocates actively engaging and involving people who are personally impacted by a problem or a situation, so that they are part of the team that finds solutions for it.

In the spirit of creative thinking, we asked Luca: “If gravity did not apply to you, what would you do?” His first thought was one of adventure mixed with fantasy – using a small propeller, he would travel the world!
