Weiming is currently a senior technician at our Guangzhou Container Terminal (GCT), and his expertise includes mechanical design, automation as well as maintenance and management of large-scale equipment. He has also been involved in various procurement projects where he oversaw the manufacturing process of our terminal’s large-scale equipment.

Growing up in the countryside of China, Weiming has had an interest in machines since a young age. He fondly recalls having a motorcycle at home, a precious toy he fixed, maintained and modified by hand. Working on his bike gave him a sense of achievement and success, which ultimately sparked his passion for machines.

This passion energised him to pursue a university degree and ultimately secure a job at the port. He is excited about the future at Guangzhou Container Terminal, where he feels there is an excellent innovation platform as well as strong management support for innovative ideas.

Weiming feels that the qualities of a good innovator should include strong knowledge and practical abilities, as well as being observant, tenacious and never settle for the status quo.

When we asked him how he encourages colleagues to keep the spirit of innovation burning bright, he shared how regular discussions and brainstorming sessions amongst the team members help to ignite the team’s creativity. By encouraging colleagues to adopt a proactive mindset towards challenges, problem-solving and innovation become integrated qualities of a team over time.

He summed his can-do attitude up with the following quote: “As long as you don’t stop thinking, there are always more ways than difficulties.”
