Saudi Global Ports Sets New Volume Handling Record

On 24 June 2020, Saudi Global Ports (SGP) handled a record 12,691 TEUs on container ship COSCO Shipping Aquarius. Operated by Hong Kong-based shipping line Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), the ship is one of the largest vessels in the world with a capacity of 19,273 TEUs. It possesses a length of 400 metres and a breadth of 59 metres across its vessel beam.

The SGP team planned the execution immaculately and worked closely with all stakeholders. This operation necessitated that the central planners, brokers, transporters and shippers be working in perfect harmony while keeping safety in check; resulting in an overall smooth and successful operation throughout the container ship’s stay in the port.

The terminal’s achievement also marks the highest volume of containers ever handled on a single vessel for ports located along the eastern provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
