#Innovators of PSA – Karol Moszyk
As the start of his career, Karol had to manage his time between studying, working in a container terminal as a wharf supervisor and embarking on an internship in DCT Gdańsk. To balance his busy schedule and meet his targets, thinking out of the box was key to keeping his academic, professional and personal life on track. Adopting an innovative mindset paid off for him as he managed to succeed in all his roles and was even awarded the honour of “A Leading Graduate” from Gdynia Maritime University for his outstanding academic results.
Over the years he has seen DCT Gdańsk continuously develop and is proud to have played an active part in that journey, contributing with his operational knowledge, positive mindset and unwavering belief in innovation.
Reflecting on the qualities of a good innovator, he encourages everyone to be open-minded, gentle, patient and have faith in what we do. He also highlighted the importance of giving colleagues the opportunity to introduce ideas and letting people be part of the innovation journey, as well as sharing those wins with others in newsletters or innovation updates. He observes how colleagues are happy when ideas are accepted and introduced to make the workplace better, safer and more efficient.
Quoting Thomas A. Edison, he sums up his innovation views as “There’s a way to do it better. Find it”. And according to him, the way to do it better is the process of innovation, so he invites everyone to explore their ideas.
We believe that an innovator is a superhero with super powers, so we also asked Karol: “If you could have a superpower to drive the innovation spirit, what would it be?”. He humbly suggested the ability to encourage ‘faith in change’ in others, clarifying that many people are naturally uncomfortable with change. He recalls how for example the gate automation at DCT Gdańsk was a big change but the automation team believed in it and delivered. Beyond the desired improvements, it has also proven crucial during the global pandemic to keep drivers and DCT Gdańsk staff safe, as they no longer need to leave the cabin to interact with each other face to face. So don’t be scared, get out of your comfort zone and go full steam ahead with change!
