Mersin International Port Maintains Lead with New Handling Record

In October this year, Mersin International Port (MIP) handled a total of 185,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), surpassing its previously set record of 175,000 TEUs, which was attained in the same month last year. The new record reaffirms MIP’s position as one of the leading container ports for the whole of Turkey.
Being well-connected to Turkey’s industrialized cities like Ankara, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Kahramanmaraş and Konya, MIP shares its borders with countries belonging to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as Syria and Iraq. This makes it one of the main container ports in the Mediterranean Region that boasts transit and hinterland connections to the Middle East and the Black Sea.
General Manager of MIP Johan Van Daele said: “My appreciation goes out to our staff for achieving another record in these challenging times. Over the past months, we have introduced many new work processes and measures to protect everyone in the best possible way. It is through the resilience and dedication of our workforce and management that we have been able to remain operational at all times without sacrificing on productivity. I would also like to thank our customers, the public agencies and all other stakeholders for being alongside in our journey.”
To maintain its competitive edge and accommodate both Turkey’s and MIP’s growth, the port will continue to strive to optimize its current service offerings by investing in additional capacity and accelerating the introduction of digital and technological solutions.
