PSA Singapore Cuts Packaging Waste for Environmental Sustainability

As part of PSA’s commitment towards environmental sustainability, our colleagues from PSA Singapore recently identified new ways to cut packaging waste.
The first solution involves modifying the way tyres are delivered to PSA Singapore. Used by prime mover trailers, these solid tyres were previously delivered on wooden pallets and wrapped with non-reusable plastic pallet film. However, by stacking these tyres neatly on the delivery trucks, we were able to eliminate the now-unnecessary packaging. Annually, this simple change helps us to reduce generating packaging waste of 1,400 wooden pallets and 14,000 square metres of plastic wrap (the size of two soccer fields!).
The second initiative targets plastic engine covers. Previously, after an engine has undergone maintenance, it was kept dust-free before installation with a single-use plastic film wrapping. PSA Singapore’s engineers came up with the idea of creating a durable plastic cover that can be reused. This means that 10,000 square metres of disposable plastic waste can now be avoided.
The third simple change made has helped to reduce the amount of metal packaging waste that we generate. PSA Singapore’s engineers use lubricants for noisy bearings or rusty screws and previously purchased them in smaller aerosol spray cans. By switching to buying industrial-size tins of lubricants and decanting the lubricants into smaller reusable sprayers, the team has eliminated up to 10,000 aerosol spray cans every year. That’s over 326 square metres of metal waste yearly.
These moves are aligned with PSA International’s goal to reduce waste in our portfolio of assets. Alongside one another, let us continue to do our part to make a positive impact for the earth and future generations!
