Building Greener PSA Terminals with More Sustainable Concrete

Did you know that global concrete production is estimated to be responsible for some 8% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions?
Concrete is a manmade combination of sand and gravel bound together by cement. It is widely used in our modern built environment, including in container terminal construction projects.
To take climate action and continue to steward responsible business practices across our global portfolio, PSA has put in place new minimum requirements for concrete sustainability across all its major terminal construction projects.
For example, PSA’s new corporate headquarters in Singapore, PSA Horizons, is designed to be energy efficient and was constructed using low-carbon and lightweight “green concrete”. The Tuas Port development in Singapore and PSA Sines’ new terminal expansion in Portugal are some other examples of PSA’s infrastructure projects that are already being constructed with more sustainable concrete.
Moving forward, PSA infrastructure projects will be required to set targeted outcomes for carbon emissions and to implement quantifiable carbon reduction measures for the concrete supplied to its projects.
By working alongside our designers, contractors, suppliers and partners, PSA will continue to build greener terminals and enable a more sustainable future.
