ESCO’s New Green Transport Lane Service Paves the Way to Sustainable Supply Chains in Thailand

Eastern Sea Laem Chabang Terminal (ESCO), together with JWD Transport Services (JTS), are pioneering sustainable supply chain solutions in Thailand with the launch of the Green Transport Lane service.

With an official launch set in June 2023, the Green Transport Lane is a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) trucking route between Laem Chabang seaport and Lad Krabang Dryport. The service is the first of its kind in Thailand and offers sustainable solutions for cargo owners as it reduces carbon emissions in comparison to the current conventional diesel trucking.

The service is complemented by ESCO’s green infrastructure, such as the recent addition of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Reach Stackers (PHE-RS) to ESCO’s fleet, as well as the installation of 300kwh EV chargers at ESCO’s Lad Krabang Inland Container Depot (LICD) facility. When deployed for operations, the PHE-RS will be fully electric for container handling, reducing carbon emissions at the facility. With this latest addition, 25% of the equipment at LICD is now electrified, reducing overall diesel consumption by up to 2.5L for every box handled or 6.7kg of carbon emissions.

Beyond the port, fully electric container trucks will be used to cover the 120km route between LICD and Laem Chabang Port. With the installation of EV chargers at LICD, the truck batteries will be fully charged before every trip.

President of ESCO Lee Siak Quee said: “ESCO continues to look ahead for ways and means to promote sustainability in a viable manner. The deployment of this Green Transport Lane is testament to the innovative spirit and ingenuity of the ESCO team. We seek to create innovative and sustainable products that are new in the market to make a positive impact on future generations.”
