IntelliTug Project – Autonomous Vessel Takes a Big Step Towards Reality

Harbour tug ‘PSA Polaris’ with Dynamic Positioning system onboard.

PSA Marine, in collaboration with the technology group Wärtsilä, continue to achieve new milestones in their intelligent vessel capabilities. This is to meet the challenges of the evolving Singapore port, which is expected to double its capacity by 2040. The goal is to empower tug masters with greater situational awareness and enhanced usability to deliver safer harbour towage services to our customers. By autonomously performing a range of routine missions, the smart tug helps to address the complex demands faced by tug masters on a daily basis.

The collaboration has recently reached another important milestone with the successful installation of a first-of-its-kind Dynamic Positioning (DP) system onboard the harbour tug ‘PSA Polaris’, and trials are now being carried out in the Port of Singapore under real-world conditions.

PSA Marine and Wärtsilä will continue development of the IntelliTug project through the coming months, including physical test-bedding and trials in Singapore port waters.
