Milestone Throughput for Fuzhou and a New Joint Venture in Cold Chain Logistics

On 8 November 2017, Fuzhou Container Terminal achieved the historic milestone of handling more than 2 million TEUs in a year for the first time since its formation. This follows the progressive improvement in throughput handled by Fuzhou Container Terminal, in the 19 years of cooperation between PSA and its partner Fujian Provincial Communication Transportation Group (“FJCT”).
In the same week and in line with the “Belt and Road Initiative”, PSA and FJCT deepened their strategic cooperation in ports and logistics. PSA Northeast Asia Supply Chain Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of PSA International, and Fuzhou Port Group, a subsidiary of FJCT, will form a joint venture company to develop supply chain networks and solutions for cold chain logistics.
The partnership seeks to leverage on PSA’s global resources and FJCT’s logistics leadership role in the Fujian province to capitalize on market opportunities and achieve new breakthroughs in the development of cold chain logistics. Together with freight forwarding services, bonded logistics warehouses and the development of cold chain logistics facilities, this will also serve to enhance the role of Fuzhou’s Jiangyin Port as a modern large-scale cold chain distribution center.
The maiden cold chain container rail train service from Fuzhou Container Terminal’s Jiangyin Port to Nanchang, in Jiangxi Province was also started on 8 November 2017. The new cold chain rail service establishes a new model of cold chain logistics transportation in Fujian Province, and is an example of innovative intermodal development within the existing supply chain models.
As the global supply chain evolves and adapts to changing market demographics, FJCT together with PSA’s global business network, hopes to continue to seek opportunities globally that further align with the ongoing Belt and Road Initiative.
