At MSC PSA European Terminal (MPET), there is a unique farewell tradition to say a moving “thank you” to its retiring staff. Held annually in May, the retirees and their loved ones take part in a grand procession involving dozens of straddle carriers lining up to form a magnificent honour guard along the terminal quay. The event was captured on video by the PSA Belgium communications team and garnered positive responses, even bagging an award!

As dozens of MPET’s iconic yellow straddle carriers get into position along the terminal, the retirees – some of whom have worked at the terminal for 40 years – are brought on one last tour around the terminal on buses. Staff from the port also give the retirees a standing ovation, accompanied by resounding horn blasts from the straddle carriers, creating a touching and awe-inspiring montage.

The PSA Belgium communications team captured the event on video and it received positive responses, both from within the company and from external stakeholders.

The video also garnered acclaim at the 24th annual Video Experience Day in Belgium! It was chosen as the ‘Best Event’ video, out of 179 submissions from companies across the nation. The Video Experience Day is Belgium’s foremost corporate film event and is jointly organised by the Flemish corporate television channel Kanaal Z and senior communication students from Antwerp’s AP College.
