Fast-tracking the infrastructure growth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both physically and digitally, and cultivating a strong Saudi workforce.

Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s fastest growing major economies. A key pillar of its Vision 2030 strategic blueprint is transforming the country into the premier logistics hub for the region, with the capability of linking trade across three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa. A member of the PSA Group, Saudi Global Ports (SGP) first began operations of the Second Container Terminal in 2015, and was selected to be the sole container terminal operator of the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam (KAPD) in 2020 through a new Build-Operate-Transfer Agreement. SGP announced that it had handled more than two million TEUs in 2022, a record for KAPD. It is also constructing a dedicated space for SGP to trial new equipment and technologies at the “SGP SandboX”, including 5G proofs-of-concept.

In 2021, SGP was awarded a concession by Saudi Railway Company (SAR) to develop and operate the Riyadh Dry Port (RDP) Ecosystem, comprising three facilities in Riyadh and Dammam. Under this agreement, SGP and SAR will work together to raise the operational efficiency of the Riyadh-Dammam Freight line and more than double RDP’s handling capacity to 1.5 million containers annually by 2030. By developing RDP and the Dammam seaport facilities as an integrated system, SGP is improving the country’s logistics network flow efficiencies and supporting businesses in the country through competitive logistics costs. The seamless connectivity between SGP’s Riyadh and Dammam facilities will also enable cargo owners to have more multimodal options through rail freight and other cargo solutions, supported by digital systems and innovative business processes.
