PSA Antwerp Trials Hydrogen-Powered Tractor

PSA Antwerp has announced its participation in the trial of a hydrogen-powered terminal tractor and mobile hydrogen filling station at its Europa Terminal.

The tractor arrived at Europa Terminal on 3 May 2021 and boasts a carrying capacity of up to 36 tonnes. It is manufactured by Terberg Special Vehicles and will be deployed to move containers in the terminal. The trial will last two weeks and is a part of the Hydrolog project, a demonstrator set up by the Flanders Institute for Logistics (VIL) to map out the possible types of internal hydrogen transport vehicles for the industry.

Projects like these are in conjunction with PSA Antwerp’s implementation of PSA’s Climate Response Management System, with a focus on four key areas: Reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and air quality improvement, renewable energy, water conservation and waste reduction. As the largest container handler in the Port of Antwerp, PSA Antwerp’s long-term aim is to reduce GHG emissions from its equipment and to significantly decrease the emission of NOx and particulate matters (PM) at its terminals, so as to contribute to better quality of air and life in the local community.
