PSA International Receives Highest Commendation for TT Club Innovation in Safety Award 2021

PSA International was shortlisted as one of the top 3 finalists for the TT Club Innovation in Safety Award 2021. The event, held virtually at TT Club’s offices in London on 22 February 2022, saw PSA receiving the highest commendation for its submission on ‘Harnessing Video Analytics’.
‘Harnessing Video Analytics’ is a compilation of video analytics projects at PSA terminals geared towards improving the level of safety within terminals, which feature use cases such as:
- The detection of humans or obstacles in the gantry path of quay cranes and yard cranes.
- The detection of un-removed twist locks and cones from containers.
- The identification of commonly encountered safety violations from lashing operations.
- The identification of traffic violations in container yards.
As a result of these innovations, lashing-related safety incidents were reduced by an approximate 60%, while lashing-related injuries sustained by personnel were reduced by about 55% during proof-of-concept trials. The number of traffic infringements was also reduced by an estimated 90%.

The TT Club Innovation in Safety Award was set up with the purpose of identifying, profiling and celebrating safety innovation in the global freight supply chain. Award entrants are required to showcase a product, idea, solution, process, scheme, or other innovation that has resulted in a demonstrable improvement to safety. Viking Life-Saving Equipment A/S was 2021’s overall winner, with its innovative HydroPen system designed to fight onboard container fires. The awards are jointly organised by TT Club and ICHCA International, and features a judging panel comprising of independent experts from the cargo logistics industry.
