PSA Korea Raises Funds for Wildfire Victims

Employees from PSA’s three container terminals in South Korea – Incheon Container Terminal (ICT), Pusan Newport International Terminal (PNIT) and PSA Hyundai Pusan New-Port Terminal – pooled together KRW8.29 million (S$9,845) to aid victims of one of the country’s largest wildfires on record.
The blaze which broke out on 4 April 2019, swept through Sokcho, Goseong County and Gangneung in the Province of Gangwon. Compounded by strong winds, the fire lasted for days and incinerated hundreds of homes, resulting in two fatalities, many injured victims and the displacement of thousands of residents from their homes.
After consulting the Goseong County Office on the help that was needed, PSA Korea used KRW4.45 million (S$5,270) of employees’ contributions to purchase skin moisturiser for the homeless victims at a makeshift shelter, to help mitigate the harsh effects of the cold and dry weather. Terminal representatives personally visited the shelter to also donate the remaining KRW3.84 million (S$4,575) in cash for additional supplies, as well as provide comfort to the shelter’s residents.
Our thoughts and well wishes go to the victims of this disaster, and we are proud of our Korean colleagues for stepping up at this critical time, to provide support and comfort to their community in need.
