PSA Singapore Achieves Record-Breaking Moves in a Single Call

On 22 April 2020, PSA Singapore raised the bar with the arrival of Mette Maersk, setting a record of 12,482 containers (21,500 TEUs) handled in a single call. The accomplishment surpassed PSA Singapore’s previous record set by a MSC Kalina call back in 2014.
The mega vessel Mette Maersk sports a length overall (LOA) of 399.2 meters, a width of 59 meters, and is designed with a carrying capacity of 18,000 TEU. It had last year set a Gross Berth Productivity (GBP) record in PSA Singapore.
No record is achieved without hard work and preparation. This year’s gargantuan task necessitated a delicate process of planning and synchronization and involved 11 quay cranes working in perfect harmony at Pasir Panjang Terminal 3. The new record was achieved in a speedy 34 hours, allowing the vessel to set off for its next destination on 23 April at 8 pm and paving the way for the next ship to dock alongside earlier than expected.
