PSA Singapore Receives World’s Largest LNG-powered Containership

The CMA CGM Jacques Saade – the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered containership – called at PSA Singapore on her maiden voyage on 12 October 2020. The maiden call event was graced by the Guest of Honour, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport and Foreign Affairs Chee Hong Tat; Head of CMA CGM Group (Asia Pacific) Stephane Courquin; Chief Executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Quah Ley Hoon; PSA International Group CEO Tan Chong Meng and PSA International Regional CEO Southeast Asia Ong Kim Pong.

The CMA CGM Jacques Saade is lauded as one of the world’s cleanest containerships, and its voyage marks a significant move towards greener and more sustainable shipping. Besides enabling a 99 per cent reduction in sulphur dioxide and fine particle emissions, its emission ratings are also well above existing regulations.

With a total capacity of 23,000 TEUs, almost 7,000 TEUs were handled at PSA Singapore during its port stay. Measuring 400 metres long, 78 metres tall and 61 metres wide, the vessel plies the Asia-Europe service route.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome the CMA CGM Jacques Saade, the world’s largest LNG-powered container ship, on its maiden call at PSA Singapore, highlighting our strong and steadfast partnership with CMA CGM. As the shipping industry moves in a greener direction, PSA remains committed to harmonising our port activities with environmental considerations in mind, delivering eco-efficiency alongside operational and service excellence. This is an exciting step in our evolution for a sustainable future,” said Kim Pong.
