Saudi Global Ports Assumes Management of Container Terminals in King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam

Saudi Global Ports (SGP), one of PSA International’s subsidiaries, has assumed management of both the First and Second Container Terminals in King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam (KAPD) with effect from 1 October. This makes SGP the sole container terminal operator of the port.

To mark the momentous occasion, key representatives from PSA International, Public Investment Fund, Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and Saudi Global Ports attended a virtual ceremony on 5 October to commemorate the success of SGP’s new BOT Concession and smooth integration of both container terminals in KAPD. This was followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony with COVID-19 safety measures at the First Container Terminal, with Mawani’s President H.E. Eng. Saad Al Alkhalb as Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included key representatives from Saudi Border Guards, Saudi Customs and Mawani management personnel from KAPD.

The successful handover of First Container Terminal from Mawani to SGP was achieved in less than six months, following the signing of the 30-year Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement between the Saudi Ports Authority and SGP on 13 April 2020.

PSA International’s Regional CEO Middle East South Asia and Head of Group Business Development Wan Chee Foong said, “We would like to thank our shareholding partner PIF, Mawani, and the Kingdom for their strong support and confidence in SGP. PSA is committed to providing its expertise and leveraging its resources towards the transformation of King Abdulaziz Port into a global mega hub, with modern and robust infrastructure, and through the cultivation of a strong Saudi workforce. We would also like to thank our partners, customers, staff and stakeholders for their continued support as we work together alongside towards a more efficient and resilient global supply chain.”

SGP’s development and modernisation plans include integrating both container terminals into a mega container hub that is well-positioned for the future and capable of competing globally.
