Saudi Global Ports Sets Vessel Call TEU Record for Saudi Arabia Ports

On 3 March 2022, Saudi Global Ports (SGP) moved a total of 18,021 TEUs on the container ship COSCO SHIPPING CAPRICORN. This is a record for the highest number of TEUs handled in a single vessel call in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s seaports! Operated by COSCO SHIPPING LINES (COSCO), this vessel is part of the Ocean Alliance MEA5 service that connects Dammam to the Far East.
This record is only possible with the positive changes in the Saudi Customs system, which has greatly benefitted importers, exporters, and shipping lines. Thanks to the upgraded Saudi Customs online platforms and processes, cargo owners now have less documentation to deal with and can enjoy shorter lead times.
The operation also tested several innovative procedures with Saudi Railway Company (SAR) to strengthen the connectivity of containers that would be moved by rail from Dammam’s King Abdul Aziz Seaport to Riyadh Dry Port in the capital city of Riyadh. These procedures allow importers in Riyadh to receive their containers in a more timely and visible manner, as a part of SGP’s commitment to improve the Logistic Ecosystem Service Level.
