Saudi Global Ports Signs MOU To Advance Saudi Arabia’s Smart Ports Initiative

To accelerate and enable the digital transformation of ports in Saudi Arabia, Saudi Global Ports (SGP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and STC’s technology provider Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia (HUAWEI) on 20 March 2022. The partners will collaborate and develop potential 5G technology proof of concepts (POCs) in infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity, application and platform services.
The MOU was signed during the launch of the Saudi Port Authority’s (MAWANI) “Smart Ports” initiative and witnessed by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mr Saleh Al Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr Abdulla Al Swaha and President of Saudi Ports Authority, Mr Omar bin Talal Hariri. The “Smart Ports” initiative is part of MAWANI’s efforts to increase Saudi Arabia’s competitiveness as a leading logistics hub, by enabling ports in Saudi Arabia to apply new technologies that better serve the maritime logistics industry.
