Commemorating the occasion: Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) President H.E Eng. Eng. Saad Alkhalb presents a plaque to COSCO President West Asia Qiu Jinguang in the presence of senior representatives from COSCO, OOCL, Mawani, Saudi Global Ports and PSA.

On 28 May 2019, King Abdul Aziz Port Dammam and PSA’s Saudi Global Ports (SGP) welcomed Cosco Shipping Solar, the largest container vessel ever to call at a port in Saudi Arabia.

Spanning a length of 400 metres and width of 59 metres, with an operating capacity of 21,237 TEUs, Cosco Shipping Solar is also one of the largest container vessels plying the oceans today.

PSA International’s Regional CEO Middle East South Asia and Head of Group Business Development Wan Chee Foong said, “The early commitment from shareholders to make the terminal future-ready in anticipation of mega vessels has enabled SGP to remain at the forefront of competition in the Arabian Gulf. We thank COSCO and its alliance partners for their continued support and trust in SGP, as we work alongside them to create greater value for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s shippers and global logistics partners.”

This milestone achievement will further help to boost the reputation of SGP as the Port of Call in the region.
