Sino-Singapore Chongqing DC Multimodal Logistics Launches First Phase of the Multimodal Distribution and Connectivity (DC) Centre

On 17 June, one of PSA’s investments in China’s multimodal logistics facilities – Sino-Singapore Chongqing DC Multimodal Logistics (SSCDC) – launched the first phase of the China-Singapore Chongqing Multi-Modal Distribution and Connectivity (DC) Centre.

Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo, who is also the Minister-in-charge of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI), participated in the launch ceremony virtually, while Chongqing Mayor Hu Henghua and Liangjiang New Area Party Secretary Zhang Hongxing attended the launch ceremony held in Chongqing.

The DC Centre in Chongqing will serve as a physical facility for multimodal operations and contribute to the development of the CCI-New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (CCI-ILSTC). It will tap Singapore and Chongqing as the respective hubs in Southeast Asia and Western China to facilitate greater connectivity and trade.

Strategically located in a cargo-rich hinterland and within the largest multimodal logistics hub in Western China, while also linked by transport services along the ILSTC and the China-Europe Trade Corridor, the DC Centre will complement PSA’s existing network in China to deliver value-added services in both physical storage and distribution as well as digital services in freight forwarding and regulatory compliance. With this, the DC Centre is well poised to serve the logistics and transportation needs of customers within the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, Western China, Southeast Asia and beyond.

PSA International Regional CEO Northeast Asia Roger Tan said, “We welcome our first physical node in Western China. As we continue to grow our existing network in China, the completion of SSCDC’s DC centre allows us to provide cost-effective supply chain solutions and value-added services with multimodal transport connectivity to our customers. Our partnership with an automotive customer also puts us in a good position to provide customised warehouse storage and distribution services in the automotive-logistics sector. We look forward to working alongside our partners and stakeholders to understand their requirements and offer our suite of connectivity and cargo solutioning options to cater to their needs.”

The DC Centre will be developed over two phases. The first phase comprises of 40,000m2 distribution centre and 50,000m2 container stacking yard and the second phase is expected to commence in the second half of 2022 and completed in 2024.

In addition to the launch of the DC Centre, SSCDC has also signed a series of 30 Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with 12 international partners and 18 China domestic partners on various partnerships which will seek to develop and leverage SSCDC’s facilities to enhance rail logistics services, among others.
