Star PALS Family Camp – Making a Difference!

On 21 September 2019, PSA Global Head of HR & Corporate Affairs, Caroline Lim, led a team from PSA International’s Group Corporate Affairs and PSA Singapore’s Corporate Communications Department to do their small bit for charity, by visiting with the Star PALS (Paediatric Advanced Life Support) Family Day staycation in Singapore.
The annual two-day event seeks to celebrate the lives of young HCA Hospice Care beneficiaries, as well as that of their families, by providing some respite from daily caregiving responsibilities. This year, the beneficiaries enjoyed a stay at the Genting Hotel while their families had an activity-filled day at the picturesque Jurong Lake Gardens, including a children’s colouring challenge facilitated by Caroline.
During the session, drawings of multi-hued dragons, ballerinas and ice-cream cones gradually filled the room, as the children freed their imaginations and coloured to their hearts content under Caroline’s guidance. At the end of the session, every participant was rewarded with a copy of Caroline’s jam-packed colouring book ‘Beastopia’ and a box of novel 3D puzzles.
Besides the colouring session, other activities included storytelling, sensory-games and massage therapy to increase family-bonding opportunities. Participants offered up sincere words of thanks to the PSA volunteers: “We are very appreciative of all the volunteers and staff, this is an experience that we couldn’t have without their help”; “Thank you for being there in our time of need”.
Star PALS is a program under PSA’s Health@Home partner HCA Hospice Care. It is the only home palliative care service in Singapore dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and minors up to 19 years old, with life-threatening or life-limiting health conditions.
PSA was proud to support this worthy cause and we thank all the volunteers and staff for their dedication, hard work, and for making this event a success!
