The 2018 Howe Yoon Chong (“HYC”) PSA Scholarship awards ceremony celebrated the achievements of 38 deserving students, who each received their scholarships on 16 May 2018. Set up in 2008, this marks the tenth batch of awardees receiving the HYC PSA Scholarships, bringing the total beneficiaries of the program to 196 students over the last decade.

In his opening address, Guest of Honour at the ceremony, PSA Group Chairman, Mr. Fock Siew Wah, shared on how Mr Howe was known as an exceptional pioneer and trailblazer. Mr Howe’s achievements included the Port of Singapore, Changi International Airport and the MRT train network and his contribution to the nation was also seen through his tireless commitment to Singapore’s civil service. Chairman Fock concluded by making two requests of the new batch of scholarship recipients, in his words: “Firstly, to never be discouraged, to have the courage to accomplish what you set out to do and to always fight on. Secondly, when you do succeed, to remember the needy around you and to extend a helping hand to others”.
