Saudi Global Ports Bags Two Wins in First Half of 2023

Saudi Global Ports (SGP) has received two accolades from its key stakeholders in the first half of 2023! This includes the title of ‘Success and Excellence Partner’ from Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) and the ‘Growth Award’ from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), PSA’s joint venture partner in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in February, SGP was one of the four companies selected amongst PIF’s portfolio companies to receive the Growth Award at the PIF Partners’ Forum 2022-2023. This was a recognition of SGP’s continuous efforts and investment in the growth of the company and people.
The Growth Award attests to SGP’s successful expansion endeavours in the region. Since assuming operations at Terminal 1 and 2 in King Abdulaziz Port in 2020, SGP has embarked on a development and modernisation program to transform King Abdulaziz Port into a mega container hub while also working alongside stakeholders to establish the Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem (comprising Riyadh Dry Port, Riyadh Empty Yard, and Dammam Empty Container Yard) in 2022.
The planned upgrade and expansions over the next few decades will allow SGP to accommodate more vessels, and support the industry’s move towards mega container ships while playing a key role in Saudi Arabia’s continued economic growth.
These accomplishments, coupled with the terminal’s outstanding productivity and consistent operational achievements – such as being the first seaport in the Eastern Province to handle over 2 million TEUs in a single year – have solidified SGP’s position as an industry leader in the region. PIF also extended their congratulations to SGP for its remarkable revenue growth since its inception in 2012.
Subsequently in March, President of MAWANI Omar Hariri recognised SGP with the title of ‘Success and Excellence Partner’ at MAWANI’s inaugural Partners’ Event. SGP was lauded for its transformative contributions to Saudi Arabia’s ports and logistics sector, along with a successful year in 2022 marked by new services and impressive productivity achievements.
Regional CEO of Middle East South Asia & Head of Group Business Development Wan Chee Foong said: “I am proud of the SGP team for their perseverance on this journey to grow PSA’s presence and track record in the Middle East, starting from Saudi Arabia. Thank you to all our PSA colleagues in Singapore and globally for the support of the SGP team. Alongside, we look forward to achieving more together in our future projects and initiatives.”.
