New T5 Terminal at Baltic Hub Supports Development of Offshore Wind Capacity

On 30 October 2026, Istrana, a special purpose vehicle jointly owned by the Polish Development Fund (85%) and Baltic Hub (15%), opened the T5 Terminal at the Port of Gdańsk, a new installation base for offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.

The T5 Terminal was developed on the Baltic Hub site to accommodate specialist transport and installation vessels used in offshore wind farm construction. The new infrastructure provides a base for energy projects in the Baltic Sea, supporting the energy transition and strengthening Poland’s energy security.

“Sustainable development guides Baltic Hub both in our own operations and in our commitment to the energy transition. Our participation in the T5 project allows us to support offshore wind development by drawing on our experience in developing terminal infrastructure. Together with our partners, we are creating the foundations for an economy powered by low-carbon energy sources,” says Baltic Hub Managing Director Jan van Mossevelde.

T5 Terminal was developed using national and European funding. The project was awarded more than PLN 900 million under Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The total value of the investment is approximately PLN 1.2 billion including VAT.

The investment involved reclaiming over 21 hectares of land and constructing approximately 900m of quays with a technical depth of 17.5m. The terminal can accommodate two installation vessels simultaneously. Storage yards and handling areas have been designed for oversized wind turbine components, including blades, tower sections and nacelles. Areas with enhanced load-bearing capacity can support loads of up to 40 tonnes per square meter.

Approximately 3.5 million m³ of sand was used to create the new land, while nearly 2,700 piles with a combined length of around 85 km were installed to support the infrastructure.

The opening of the terminal increases Poland’s capacity to support offshore wind projects, from storing oversized components to loading them onto installation vessels, while providing a base for cooperation among manufacturers, construction companies, logistics businesses and service providers involved in the sector’s development.
