PSA Chennai Celebrates Tenth Anniversary of Operations

On 27 September 2019, Chennai International Terminals Private Limited (PSA Chennai) in India, hosted celebrations for staff, stakeholders and the trade to mark PSA Chennai’s 10th anniversary in the region.

In the morning, the festivities kicked off in the terminal with an event to honour long-term employees. This saw a series of high-spirited performances and entertainment from PSA Chennai’s staff, as well as a video message from PSA Group CEO Tan Chong Meng.

In the evening, a trade meet was attended by officials from Chennai Customs, Chennai Port Trust, Consulate General of Singapore, as well as shipping lines and cargo owners, CONCOR and other trade bodies.

In his speech, Deputy Chairman of Chennai Port Trust, Cyril George, paid tribute to PSA Chennai on its anniversary and emphasized the key roles of the Port Trust, Chennai Customs, trade associations and terminal operators in transforming Chennai’s capabilities as a leading port in the region.

Consul General of Singapore in Chennai, Pong Kok Tian, then highlighted the strong trade, cultural and tourism links between Chennai and Singapore, whilst Regional CEO Middle East and South Asia, Wan Chee Foong, spoke of future ambitions for both the terminal and PSA in India. General Manager PSA Chennai, Madhanmohan, closed the event by thanking everyone for their great support over the past decade.

Since commencing operations in September 2009, the terminal has handled over 6.9 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (“TEUs”) and achieved its highest annual throughout of 940,240 TEUs in 2018. The terminal has won the “Container Handling Terminal of the Year” South East Cargo and Logistics award, four times, in 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019; it also holds the productivity record of 171 moves per vessel hour for the South and East Coast of India.
