PSA Antwerp First to Offer Log Handling Services in Antwerp

In July 2020, PSA Antwerp in Belgium began offering log handling services alongside a redesigned Churchill terminal, quay 410, in the Port of Antwerp. The service is offered in collaboration with PSA Breakbulk and is a first for the Port of Antwerp.

Customers of the new log handling service will have the option to ship the logs with or without stuffing them into containers, which gives them the flexibility to choose the more cost-effective option for them at the time of shipping. The entire service is performed at a single location, allowing additional services such as Container Freight Station (CFS) activities or the fumigation of logs to be performed directly on-site or aboard the vessels, paving the way for future partnerships in the Port of Antwerp.

Managing Director of PSA Antwerp Jan Van Mossevelde said, “Attracting this new type of cargo and traffic to Antwerp is in line with our global cargo solutions strategy, in which we want to further expand our services as a cargo handler and set up tailor-made partnerships within the supply chain.”

M/V Rana, a bulk carrier with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 38,566 tons, was the first ship to be fully loaded using the new service, arriving on 16 July and successfully departing the Port of Antwerp on 20 July.
